Air-conditioner running cost depends on electrical demand and how long the compressor actually operates. Rated input power is a useful starting point, but real consumption can vary substantially with weather, insulation, thermostat settings and inverter operation.

Basic estimate

Cost ≈ input kW × effective running hours × electricity rate

A 1.5 kW unit drawing that power for an effective 6 hours uses about 9 kWh. Multiply 9 kWh by your current tariff to estimate the energy charge.

Why inverter AC calculations differ

An inverter compressor can reduce output after the room approaches the set temperature, so multiplying maximum rated watts by every hour switched on can overstate consumption. Measured average energy use is more useful when available.

What increases AC cost?

  • Higher outdoor temperature and humidity.
  • Lower thermostat setting.
  • Poor insulation or air leakage.
  • Dirty filters or restricted airflow.
  • Oversized or inefficient equipment.
